UPCOMING: Cafe Conversations, Invited Lectures at 1:30PM on Saturdays.

Did you know that cafes are connected to the Enlightenment? It's so true! Starting in the Middle East, it created a third space for people to meet and share ideas. People from different backgrounds and social classes were able to share what life was like together. Puppet shows, writers, journalists, scientists, and others shared new ideas were brewing with the coffee. And, it spread westward.
In what we consider medieval times in Europe, a majority of populations relied on ale as their main source of hydration and beverage. However, this firm reliance on ale is a myth. People still drank water, if the water sources were safe to drink, and the 'daily ale' of the time was much lower in alcohol content.
However, it still stands that once cafes grew in popularity in the Western World, this replaced a depressant as a beverage with a stimulant (COFFEE and TEA!), encouraged new thoughts and the use of third spaces. In the beginning of European coffeehouses, they were largely found around university campuses, secretly referred to as an 'invisible college,' as it was an established place to share ideas with the public. And within these times, scientists were at the forefront, sharing new ideas like the scientific method.
Considering this history of cafes, we are starting 'Cafe Conversations,' where invited members of the community can share and speak on topics they focus in and are passionate about.
Come join and listen in The Artists Hand. ❤️ Ask questions, grab a coffee, and build community with us.
Sincerely,
Maddie Jones, Assistant Manager
