Lasting Gifts for Mother's Day and Springtime!

Occasionally artists bring new work into the gallery with thoughts about you, gentle reader, enjoying their art works for a particular purpose. There are ceramic vessels to hold things, and woven objects to wear, and cards to send to friends and relatives. And there are, of course, art objects meant to delight the imagination. Linda Burkett, for instance, brought “roses poses,” with the idea that a small token of love for one’s mother might possibly be made with one of her delightful watercolors names for associated emotions of joy, happiness, forgiveness, and of course, love. Though we won’t be open on Sunday for Mother’s Day, you can plan a visit to find that gift of lasting value…or get a gift card and let mom pick it out.

These flowers won’t fade.

Nothing NEED be done about it. Collecting art is fun! Each year the IUP Museum “goes downtown” to exhibit items from their collection. This year we get to take a peek at their newest acquisitions. Unlike most of our exhibits, these are not for sale. Instead, come feast your soul with master-works by notable artists recently acquired by the IUP Museum board.

While you’re in, you may want to build your own collection. I enjoy changing over the art in “The Hand” every few months and we have some new paintings by Mark Altrogge appropriate to the season. Have you noticed? The weather here can change in a moment, and, well…it rains. A LOT sometimes. So Mark helps us see the beautiful from “Under My Umbrella,” while “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head.” You get the picture. Nettie Nestor has some new quilts on themes of vegetables, bound to please gardeners and foodies. Speaking of gardening, you should check out the unique stained glass and sculptures to adorn your flower bed.

Sincerely,

Brian Jones, Art Gallery Owner
