- The Artists Hand

The IUP museum is back to share some new collections downtown in the exhibit, "Recent Acquisitions."

The beautiful thing about the "IUP Goes Downtown" Exhibit, is the connection between the university and the town. Although it may not be seen at first, the University and the Downtown Area can feel like different worlds. Especially after the pandemic, it can take great effort to connect the two and build community, sometimes with students, faculty, or staff that are only here for a season of their life.
In many ways, these visits are what make Indiana beautiful. With so many visitors, it is a changeable thing, a beautiful opportunity meet others, therefore learning and growing in the university and in the 'real world,' no matter your age. Meeting new faces over art and coffee is not only cute, it is a moment that can change you.
There is an importance in finding new places that visitors can find a sense of home. It is a beautiful thing. I know many people who have come to find The Artists Hand as a cafe of comfort in times of exams and turbulent moments of life. I know people who have been unsure of visiting, not realizing that the artistic space was made for them to share with others.
In this exhibit and month of May, may we find connection, beauty, and community together, whether you call the town of Indiana, PA or the University home.
The show runs from: May 1–May 16, 2026
Opening Reception: Friday, May 1, 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.
All are welcome!
Sincerely,
Madeleine Jones
Assistant Art Gallery Manager
