The Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance and the Artists Hand Gallery
invite woodworkers to apply to be part of the Ways of Wood Exhibition.
Wood has deep roots in folk art. Wood is a foundational material in folk
and traditional art in its various capacities ranging from woodturning,
woodcarving, joinery, instrument making, toolmaking, and more. This
exhibition celebrates the enduring tradition of making things out of wood,
from traditional to contemporary.
The exhibit will open with a reception on Friday August 16, 2024 and will
close on Saturday September 14, 2024.
TO QUALIFY:
Artist must be 18 years of age or older.
All art works must be created by the submitting artist. No kits or reproductions.
Entry Requirements:
● Open to artists who reside or have a business within a 75 mile radius from
Indiana County, PA.
● Original works, priced and available for sale. If not for sale, please provide a value
of work.
● Entries must be ready to securely hang or install, and any required hardware
must be included.
● Artists may submit up to eight (8) works for consideration via digital
representation (link or digital file). If you have difficulties submitting your work
digitally please contact the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance, as seen below:
● Include dimensions of each piece of submitted art.
● 2-4 sentences for a statement of work, following the prompt: “My way with wood
comes from...”
Upon notification of acceptance, artist will receive a consignment agreement which
must be completed and returned when work is delivered. An inventory list including
title of work, artist name, and price of work must be provided.
Any delivered work that does not meet the above requirements will not be hung and
the entry fee will not be refunded.
Entry Fee and sales commission:
• $30 non-refundable entry fee for up to 8 pieces.
• Commission: 55% to the artist and 45% to The Artists Hand Gallery.
Selection:
Selection will be based on the overall quality of the work and its compliance with the
entry requirements. Work will be selected through a juried process, and accepted work
will be subject to final approval by the jurors.
How to Submit:
• A $30 non-refundable entry fee for up to 8 entries.
• Email images to praafolkarts@gmail.com no later than July 19, 2024. Decisions
will follow within 2 weeks of receipt or appointment.
• TO PAY FEE: write a $30 check payable to the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance and
mail it to:

Only those submissions that have a fee paid will be considered.
TIMELINE:
Exhibition Duration: Friday August 16 to September 14, 2024
Entry Deadline: Friday July 19, 2024
Notification: Friday August 2, 2024
Drop-off of artwork: August 11 & 12, 2024
Public Reception: Friday August 16, 2024 - 6:00-8:00 pm
Pickup of artwork: Monday, September 16, 2024, 9am to 5pm.
GENERAL RULES WHEN WORK IS ACCEPTED:
Artists must deliver and pick up their work at the designated dates and times. Work
must be delivered and picked up by a person. NO SHIPPING.
Upon delivery all work must be stable and ready to display. Labels must be complete
with artist’s name and contact information and attached to the bottom of
the work.
Insurance Statement:
The Artists Hand Gallery will exhibit the utmost care for the safekeeping of all artworks
while the artworks are in the Gallery. The Artists Hand Gallery carries only general
liability insurance policy and does not provide content insurance. The gallery does not
insure any artwork or support equipment. Therefore it is up to the individual artists to
insure their artwork if they feel it is necessary. Insurance provisions for loss or damage
will be the responsibility of the artist. The Artists Hand Gallery is not responsible for
damaged or stolen artwork.
