Modern Muses

Classical goddesses inhabiting modern women, or is it the other way around?  Mandi Moerland’s new collection of work dubbed “Modern Muses” shimmers with fierce, feminine fashion. The women assert themselves on her canvases mythically.  Mandi has given each painting an enigmatic association with Greek goddesses (not always muses), piquing the viewer’s curiosity. Just what is going on in this moment?  One comes away thinking that the confident woman rendered on the canvas is just out of reach of our knowing. But they surely, confidently know themselves.  Something powerful, inspirational, and just beyond our reach is going on here.
