ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: “Painting” With Fabric! The Art of Kinusaiga.
In this class, we’ll explore the Japanese art of Kinusaiga. Often called “painting with fabric,” Kinusaiga invites artists to create colorful landscapes and geometric masterpieces by tucking up-cycled fabric into their design.
Kinusaiga was developed in Japan during the 1980s by artist Maeno Takashi, who was inspired by traditional Japanese textile arts and the desire to give new life to fabric scraps.
Our artists will learn the basics of Kinusaiga to create their own unique fabric artwork. We’ll explore color, pattern, texture, and composition while transforming simple pieces of fabric into beautiful works of art. This class requires the use of a hobby knife.
